WHAT’S MY STORY?
Not to go for the obvious food metaphor, but I’ve had my fingers in a few pots.
Today I work as the food editor of the San Francisco Standard which is like a unicorn job. For years prior, I was an editor for San Francisco Magazine and 7x7 and contributed to the likes of Eater, Saveur, Sunset, Taste, Bon Appétit and Gourmet. I’ve also published a few cookbooks, including Tacolicious (Ten Speed Press).
But it took having my skin in the restaurant game to make me a better at food writing. Today, I remain a partner at Tacolicious, a restaurant group based in San Francisco, but for the many years between my editor gigs, I worked as the restaurant’s Branding and Marketing Director. In that time, I helped launch five concepts and participated in everything from menu development and interior design to employee training and the curation of toilet paper holders.
I now understand how equally relentless and rewarding the industry is. My claim to fame? José Andrés retweeted my mea culpa.
