Asian Vegetables: From Long Beans to Lemongrass, a Simple Guide to Asian Produce (Chronicle Books, 2001)

asianvegetablesThis book is living proof (ok, out-of-print proof) that I’ve always been an Asia-o-phile, long before we opened Chino. It was my first cookbook and I was only 27, so it’s very near and dear to my heart. Barbara Tropp, my hero at the time who has since passed away, wrote the forward and called me a curious bunny hopping through a field of vegetables. Or something to that effect. I still love the chicken with Thai basil, the braised short ribs with bok choy, the bharta, and the soupy dahl with curry leaves. I like to think this book was ahead of its time. Buy it here.
